“Bent Blues” came about as an exercise to write a 12 bar blues form. I twisted the harmonic movement for the melody so it fell from grace as standard jazz blues format. The melody starts in A minor, goes to the minor 4 chord but falls to Ab-Db-C7b9 as the turn around. The solo section is just a standard Minor jazz blues format.

I often challenge myself like this when I need a vehicle to compose. Pick a playing field and start the game as it were.
